Rail communications of Chattogram with the rest of the country remained suspended for more than three hours on Wednesday after the locomotive of a train broke down near Hasanpur Station in Nangalkot upazila and four bogies of another train derailed in the Gunabati area Chauddagram upazila.
The twin incidents disrupted rail communication on the Chattogram-Dhaka and Chattogram-Sylhet routes, causing severe inconvenience to passengers who got stranded at different stations.

Laksam Junction Station Master Omar Faruk said train services resumed after remaining suspended for over three hours.
Nangalkot Station Master Jamal Uddin said the Dhaka-bound Sonar Bangla Express from Chattogram developed an engine fault near Hasanpur Station around 6:45pm after crossing Gunabati Station, leaving the train stranded on the up line.
Meanwhile, the Chandpur-bound Meghna Express left Chattogram and, after crossing Gunabati Station on the down line, also got stranded. Railway sources said four of its bogies derailed around 7:15pm, blocking the line.
As a result, train movement on both up and down lines came to a complete halt.
Railway officials said a relief train was dispatched from Chattogram, which salvaged the broken engine and derailed bogies.
Omar Faruk said a replacement engine was also sent from Chattogram for the Sonar Bangla Express.
