Police arrested two young men with firearms and ammunition in Khulna city on Friday.
The arrestees were identified as Abid Hasan Rana, son of Oliar of Harintana under Lobonchora Police Station, and Salauddin Ahmed, son of Syed Chowdhury, a tenant at a house owned by Sabbir on South Tutpara Circular Road.
They were arrested from areas under Khulna Sadar and Harintana police stations around 10:45am.
Police recovered a revolver, one revolver cartridge, 16 pistol cartridges and 24 live shotgun cartridges from their possession, according to police.
Sub-Inspector Jamal Uddin of Sadar Police Station said they were conducting a special duty in the Sadar Police Station area the previous night.
Around 9:30am, Salauddin was first detained from Tutpara Circular Road, he said.
Later, based on information provided by Salauddin, police recovered the firearm and ammunition from underneath the bed in Rana's bedroom at Harintana under Lobonchora Police Station, the SI said.
During preliminary interrogation, the arrested men reportedly told police that they were associates of the most wanted criminal Rafiq, of Rafiq Bahini.
They also reportedly told police that they had supplied firearms to their associates in different parts of Khulna city at different times to assist in criminal activities.
The SI said preparations were underway to file a case with Lobonchora Police Station in connection with the incident.
