Chapainawabganj, June 24 (UNB) - Indian Border Security Force (BSF) allegedly shot dead two Bangladeshi nationals while three others went missing at Bakherali Border in Sadar upazila early Monday.
The deceased were identified as Selim Hossain and Abu Bakkar of the upazila.
Locals said around 40-50 cowherds crossed into India to bring cows through Bakherali border on Sunday night.
BSF opened fire on them when they were returning to Bangladesh with some 200 cattle, leaving the duo dead on the spot inside Indian territory, while five others sustained bullet injuries, they added.
BGB-53 battalion Commanding Officer Lt Col Sazzad Sarwar said they had only ‘learned’ about the firing incident inside India, and was unable to confirm any deaths or who was responsible. The matter would be investigated, he said.
