Two passengers were killed after a speedboat carrying three people capsized in Khagalia River in Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria district on Monday night.
The deceased were identified as Dayal, 24, son of Raihan Uddin of Chatlapar union in Nasirnagar, and Md Sajib, 25, son of Hanif Mia of Kuliarchar upazila in neighbouring Kishoreganj district.
Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Nasirnagar Police Station Krishna Lal Ghosh said three people travelled by speedboat from Chatlapar village to Nasirnagar Upazila Health Complex on Monday afternoon, carrying a patient for treatment.
After receiving treatment, they were returning home at around 9pm when the speedboat sank in the Khagalia River, he said.
Local people rescued the injured passengers and took them to Nasirnagar Upazila Health Complex where the attending physician declared two of them dead.
The bodies have been kept at the Chatlapar Police Outpost.
Legal proceedings are underway, police said.
