Two women, including a female construction worker, died in separate incidents in the capital's Kadamtali and Shahbagh areas on Friday.

In Kadamtali, a woman working as a cleaning worker died after falling through a 5th-floor elevator shaft opening at an under-construction building in the Shanir Akhra area around 1pm.

The deceased was identified as Josna Begum, 35, wife of Modhu Miah. The family hails from Shantipur village under Mithamoin upazila of Kishoreganj district and currently resides in the area of Shanir Akhra.

According to her co-worker Md. Yunus, Josna was working at 'Safa Tower,' an under-construction building on Road No. 8 in Shanir Akhra. Around 12:30pm, other workers went downstairs for Friday prayers and lunch. Shortly after, the building's security guard alerted the house owner that Josna had fallen through the open elevator space on the fifth floor.

Co-workers rescued her in critical condition and rushed her to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 2:10pm., where the duty doctor declared her dead.

In a separate incident at Shahbagh, hospital staff found an unidentified elderly woman, aged around 60, lying unconscious near the waiting room behind DMCH emergency department around 3:20pm. She was taken to the emergency room, where doctors declared her dead at 3:40pm.

DMCH Police Camp In-Charge Inspector Md. Habibur Rahman, said both bodies have been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsies and respective police stations have been notified.
