An unidentified young man died after being found unconscious with apparent injuries in the city’s Bangshal area early Sunday.
The youth, aged around 25, was found near the Kasaituli Jumman Community Centre intersection and taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 12:00am, where doctors declared him dead.
A passerby, Tanvir Hossain, said he saw the youth lying unconscious with apparent injuries at the intersection while travelling by rickshaw. With the help of local residents, he took the youth to the hospital.
He said both legs of the youth appeared to be broken and there was an injury mark on the right side of his head.
The youth was wearing a black short-sleeved T-shirt and dark red or maroon trousers, according to the locals.
Inspector Md Habibur Rahman, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, said the body was kept in the hospital morgue for autopsy.
Efforts were underway to identify the deceased, and the matter was reported to the police station concerned, he said.
The exact cause of death could not be determined immediately. It was not immediately clear whether the youth was killed, died in an accident or died by suicide.
