Dr Maleka University College student Samiur Rahman Khan Alvi was hacked to death in Dhaka's Jigatola area following an altercation over drug use, police said on Wednesday.
The mystery behind Alvi's killing was unearthed after Hazaribagh thana police arrested four suspects raiding Dhanmondi and Mohamadpur areas on Tuesday.

The arrestees were identified as Md Raihan (20), Habibur Rahman Munna (26), Samoti Pal (23), and Kawsar (21).
Alvi was an honours third-year student of Dr Maleka University College and a resident of Maneswar Road under Hazaribagh Police Station.
Briefing reporters at the DMP Media Centre in Minto Road on Wednesday noon, Deputy Commissioner (Ramna Division) of the DMP Masud Alam said the incident occurred from a dispute over drug consumption and seating arrangements at a restaurant in Baganbari near Dhanmondi Lake on May 15.
On May 16, the attackers, in a pre-planned move, took Alvi and his friends to Jigatola bus stand area, where they were ambushed and attacked with sharp weapons. Alvi sustained critical injuries and was declared dead after being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. His three friends – Ashraful Islam, Zakaria, and Ismail Hossain – were also injured and are currently undergoing treatment in the hospital.
The arrests were made following a case filed by the victim’s father, Moshiur Rahman Khan, with Hazaribagh Police Station, the DC (Ramna Division) said.

During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees admitted to killing Alvi over previous enmity, the DC added. Legal action is underway, and efforts to arrest the remaining suspects involved in the murder are ongoing, he added.
