The Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Kaliganj in Lalmonirhat district has been accused of slapping a young man standing in a queue at a petrol pump for collecting fuel on behalf of another individual.
A video clip of the incident, which took place on Wednesday afternoon, went viral on Facebook, sparking outcry.
The incident occurred at a filling station in the Chaparhat area, where UNO Samima Akter Jahan allegedly slapped the youth in public.
In the video clip, the UNO was seen grabbing Nodi Roy by his collar and slapping him several times while he was standing in a queue for petrol.
It is also alleged that his motorcycle key was taken away.
According to sources, the youth had gone to the pump with a motorcycle and fuel card on behalf of a sick person.
However, witnesses claimed that the UNO did not listen to his explanation and slapped him instead.
Later, amid protests from the people who were present there, the bike key was returned after almost one hour of the incident.
However, Samima Akter Jahan denied the allegation of physical assault.
Locals alleged that she also threatened motorcyclists standing in a long queue at another petrol pump in Tushbhandar Bazar with a stick in her hand on the same day.
The UNO also allegedly knocked down a motorcycle at the pump.
