Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday said the United States has remained a valued friend and trusted partner of Bangladesh since its independence, playing an important role in the country's democratic and development journey.
In a letter to US President Donald Trump marking the United States' 250th Independence Day, shared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the prime minister wrote, “On behalf of the Government and the people of Bangladesh, and on my own behalf, I extend our warmest felicitations to you and the people of your great country, the United States of America, on the momentous milestone of your 250th Independence Day.
"We are confident that, under your pragmatic leadership, the United States is on track for even greater achievements in the decades to come.
"As the United States celebrates this glorious occasion across the nation, America 250 is also inspiring people around the world with the American dream, sacrifice, freedom, values, traditions, ethos and America's contributions to the world.
"Since our independence, the United States has been a valued friend and an important partner in our democratic and development journey. Over the past five decades, our bilateral ties have evolved into a robust and multifaceted partnership encompassing trade and investment, education, defence and extensive people-to-people connections.
"We have now entered a new chapter in our relationship, with substantial progress achieved since the beginning of this year in the areas of trade, energy cooperation and investment. We also deeply appreciate the United States' continued support and generosity in addressing the Rohingya crisis.
"Rest assured that my government and I will continue to work with you and your administration to further strengthen and deepen our partnership in areas of shared interest.
Tarique Rahman wished Trump good health, a long life and continued success, and wished the friendly people of the United States lasting peace, prosperity and happiness.
"Please accept, President, the assurances of my highest consideration."
