A vegetable vendor was stabbed to death by unidentified assailants in the Purba Jurain area of Kadamtali in the capital on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Md Quddus, 50, a resident of house No. 91/A on the Darogabari Road in Purba Jurain.
He used to sell vegetables at a local Bou Bazar, according to family members.
House owner Kamal Sikder, who took him to the hospital, said Quddus was returning home from his shop when miscreants attacked him with sharp weapons near Poppy School in Nabaran Goli, leaving him seriously injured.
He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 11:15pm, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police said efforts were underway to identify and arrest those involved.
