A virtual discussion programme was held Saturday night over mental health complications of students pursuing higher education and research abroad.
ACTIONISTS, a voluntary youth organisation working on mental health, organised the webinar as part of its regular programme “Dialogue for Action”.
Jagannath University Lecturer Fortune Shamim Naima Nigar moderated the programme where Naima Nigar, assistant professor at Psychology Department of Dhaka University; Nusrat Siraj, Licensed Mental Health Counselor of New York; and Mostafa Kamal Masud, PhD researcher and associate professor at Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), were present as discussants.
According to a research report, 86 percent students and researchers pursuing higher education abroad are going through different kinds of mental health risks.
The speakers shared their own experiences of studying abroad and suggested different ways to tackle mental depression or stress. They stressed on self-confidence to cope with any kind of adverse situation abroad.
