Justice Tariq ul Hakim and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir’s bench issued the suo moto rule and asked the secretary of Law Ministry to respond within a week.
It was issued after Advocate Abdul Kaiyum and Advocate Yunus Ali Akhand presented reports of three national dailies over the matter.
On March 3, a stand release order for Pirojpur District and Sessions Court Judge Md Abdul Mannan was issued within four hours after he denied bail to former Awami League MP AKM Awal and his wife Lyla Parveen in three separate graft cases for grabbing government land.
Meanwhile, Law Minister Anisul Huq defended Judge Mannan’s stand release, saying it was intended to control the situation and that he believes the move did not violate rule of law.
Bar members decided to boycott the courtroom due to the judge’s behaviour and chaos was created at the court premises, the minister told the media at secretariat.“Approval and denial of bail depends on the court but we have to take measures when the court creates such situation where controlling law and order becomes questionable,” he said.
