Police recovered the hanging body of a 33-year-old woman from a rented home in the capital’s Demra area on Tuesday, 23 days after she married a friend of her former husband.
The deceased was identified as Sumaiya Akter Lucky, daughter of Lakkhan Talukder of Haripur in Jaintapur upazila of Sylhet.
Md Saidul Haque, sub-inspector (SI) of Demra Police Station, said police suspect that Lucky committed suicide after hanging herself with a scarf in a room on the balcony sometime between 3:00am and 5:00am on Tuesday following a family dispute.
“On information, police recovered the body around 11:00am on Tuesday and sent it to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Wednesday morning for autopsy.
The SI said the exact cause of death would be confirmed after receiving the autopsy report.
Lucky’s sister Dolly said she had previously been married to a man named Rezaul, with whom she had a 10-year-old son.
After separating from her first husband, Lucky came to Dhaka on September 6 for work, she said, adding that they came to know that Lucky had married Ashraful, a friend of her former husband, after arriving in Dhaka and had been living with him in a rented house in Demra.
The family, however, was unaware of the reason behind her suspected suicide.
