A 27-year-old woman was killed and her husband and child were injured in a landslide triggered by the torrential rainfall at Jhilonja in Sadar upazila of Cox’s Bazar district on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Nasima Akter of Darianagar area of the upazila.
A chunk of mud from a nearby hill collapsed on their house around 1pm in Borochhara area of Dariyanagar, leaving three people trapped inside the mud, said Tahmina Akter, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO).
On information, local people and members of the Fire Service rescued the three and took them to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital where doctors declared Nasima dead.
Her husband Jasim, 40 and their child are undergoing treatment at the hospital, the UNO said.
Local administration had earlier warned people living in landslide-prone hill areas to move to safer places due to the heavy rainfall.
An eviction and relocation drive led by an executive magistrate would be conducted in vulnerable hill areas later in the day.
