Police recovered the blood-stained body of a woman with her hands tied from a field in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Jobeda Khatun, 45, wife of late Tufan Hossain of Daliarpur village in the upazila. Police suspect that she was hacked to death with a sharp weapon. The incident has created panic in the area.
According to locals, Jobeda went out of her house in the morning to cut grass but did not return home for a long time.
Later, locals found her body lying in a field in Gopalpur village with her hands tied and covered in blood.
Some locals suspect that she might have been killed after rape or after a failed rape attempt.
Members of Daliarpur Police Camp reached the spot before evening after receiving the information.
Sub-Inspector Akhtar Hossain, in-charge of the police camp, said, “The woman went to cut grass in the morning and did not return home. Later, locals found her body in the field with her hands tied and injuries from sharp weapons.”
He said the body will be sent to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy after preparing the inquest report.
Officer-in-Charge of Damurhuda Model Police Station Sheikh Mesbah Uddin said he had heard about the incident and was heading to the spot.
He further added that details would be known after visiting the scene.
