This year’s theme is “Begin thalassemia prevention from young age, blood test before marriage will make the future generation safe”.
The World Thalassemia Day is celebrated every year on May 8 aiming to raise awareness about this disease among the people throughout the world.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued a message on the occasion of the day.
The Awami League government is working relentlessly to bring healthcare to the doorsteps of the people and to ensure healthcare to the rural population, said Sheikh Hasina.
About 18,000 community clinics and union healthcare centres were established in the country to ensure health services of rural people. Besides, 30 items of medicine are being also provided to people at free of cost, said PM.
Sheikh Hasina said the government has started to provide Tk 50,000 as assistance to every thalassemia patient as well as cancer, kidney and liver cirrhosis patients for their treatment.
