A writ petition was filed with the High Court (HC) on Wednesday seeking its directive to identity those responsible for the deaths of four children inside their homes during the recent quota reform movement and to form a judicial probe commission in this connection.
The four children are Riya Gope of Narayanganj, Abul Ahad, Saffat and Naima Sultana of Dhaka’s Rayerbagh, Mirpur and Uttara areas respectively.
The writ petition was filed with the court of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam who fixed Thursday for hearing on it, said Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Taimur Alam Khandaker.
Taimur, who lodged the petition, said they sought Tk 1 crore for families of each deceased as compensation.
Secretaries to the Ministries of Home and Law, and Inspector General of Police and two national newspapers were made respondent in the writ petition.
Referring to media reports about the deaths of the children, lawyer Taimur said the two newspapers were made respondents as the petition was submitted on the basis of the reports ran by them.
