A 23-year-old man was stabbed to death allegedly by his younger brother following a family dispute in the capital’s Shantibagh area on Thursday evening.
The deceased was identified as Saiful Islam Saif, son of Sirajul Islam. The family lived in an eight-floor apartment in a 24-storey building of the area.
According to family members, Saif was preparing to go to Australia for higher studies and was also receiving training to become a private pilot after completing his postgraduate studies. He was the elder of the two brothers.
Sirajul said he was on the rooftop of the building when a quarrel broke out between his two sons inside the apartment.
His 17-year-old younger son allegedly stabbed Saif in the neck during the altercation, leaving him injured.
Family members rushed critically injured Saif to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead around 7pm after examination.
Inspector Md Habibur Rahman, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, said the body had been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
