Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun on Wednesday warned that no exemption would be given to policemen involved in drugs.
“We have a zero tolerance policy against any policeman involved in drugs. No exemption would be given,” he said.
The IGP came up with the remarks while speaking at a two-day quarterly police conference at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium at Rajarbagh Police Lines in the capital.
Addressing the conference, the IGP praised the police's work, saying that the people were able to celebrate the last Eid-ul-Fitr without any major incidents due to the effective action of the police.
He said effective steps have to be taken from now on so that people can celebrate the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha also with festive mood and safely. The IGP ordered to ensure movement of home-bound people and transports carrying sacrificial animals unhindered.
The IGP gave instruction to develop police stations as service delivery centres and also directed the police officials to ensure that the people get the desired services at the police stations.
He said that the law and order situation in the country has become normal as police is doing a good job.
On the other hand, people's expectations towards the police have also increased. The policemen have to work harder to provide services as per the expectations of the people, the IGP said.
The police chief said that Bangladesh police has many successes in combating militants. The militants are continuing their activities and they are active online. Anti-militant activities have to continue, he said.
He also directed to strengthen cyber patrolling in this regard.
Referring to juvenile crimes, the top officer of the police force said action must be taken against juvenile gang members. There is no way to exempt them, he added.
Additional IGP (Crime and Operations) Md. Atiqul Islam presented the overall crime situation of the January-March 2023 quarter such as robbery, murder, rape, women and child abuse, militancy, juvenile gangs in the conference.
Senior officers of police headquarters and top officers of different police units attended the conference.
