Bangladesh has showcased strong and growing participation in this year's China South-Asia Expo, underscoring the nation's dedication to strengthening regional cooperation and expanding economic partnerships.

The expanded engagement highlights Bangladesh’s strategic efforts to promote trade, investment, and collaboration across South Asia and beyond.

When asked about the changes in participation, Bhuyan Muhammad Hussain, Vice President of the China-Bangla Friendship Association, noted significant developments.

“Last year, Bangladesh’s pavilions consisted of fewer than 10 stalls. This year, nearly 70 to 80 stalls are representing Bangladesh,” he said.  

Exhibits from Bangladesh include ready-made garments, leather goods, and agricultural products, reports CGTN.

Md. Maruf Ahmed, an official from Akij Venture Ltd, said that the company exports beverage and juice products to over 40 countries.

“Now, there is strong interest in exporting mangoes to China, as the collaboration between China and Bangladesh is very good,” he added.

Alimuzzaman, who is participating in the expo for the first time, also expressed his optimism. “This is our first participation; we are selling yarn and twine. My expectations are high, and I believe we will attract many buyers,” he said.

China has been Bangladesh’s largest trading partner for years.

Currently, the two nations are negotiating an upgraded investment agreement aimed at liberalising trade and attracting increased bilateral investment.

Bangladeshi officials are optimistic about further strengthening cooperation in key sectors.

Mohammad Foyshol Azad, Chairman of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh, highlighted investment opportunities across agriculture, industry, and the readymade garment (RMG) sector.

“We hope that future collaboration between China and Bangladesh will be even stronger and more amicable,” he said.

Yunnan Province, as the host, plays a strategic role in connecting China with its southern neighbours.

Officials hope the expo will reinforce its position as a gateway to South and Southeast Asia, fostering increased connectivity, cooperation, and shared prosperity.
