The BYD manufacturing facility in Jinan, the capital of eastern China's Shandong province, has solidified its position as a pivotal hub in China's rapidly expanding new energy vehicle industry, signalling the company's ongoing commitment to innovation and sustainable mobility solutions.

With a substantial investment of 15 billion Chinese yuan from BYD Company Limited, the Jinan manufacturing facility has become a flagship in China’s burgeoning new energy vehicle (NEV) sector.

Featuring comprehensive full-process production—from stamping to assembly—the plant is among the region’s largest and most advanced projects.

According to BYD, their investment in Jinan commenced in September 2021.

"Later, we successfully established a complete vehicle production facility. Currently, the plant has an annual capacity of more than 700,000 vehicles," an official said during a recent interview with journalists.

However, the base has a lower production capacity than the factory located in central China's Xi'an city.

Different types of vehicles are produced in the factory in Jinan. Some of them are hybrids.

The models produced at the facility include the Denza N7, Yuan Plus, Seal 06 DM-i, and Song L, with production output doubling year-on-year.

According to the official, "The batteries of the electric vehicles can be charged in 40 minutes at a cost of around 5.5 US dollars, allowing for a travel range of up to 700 km on a single charge."

The BYD Jinan area not only focuses on vehicle assembly but also encompasses two other key facilities: a battery factory dedicated to electric vehicle batteries and a semiconductor plant specialising in automotive chips.

"Here, we produce automotive-grade chips and IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) modules. BYD has over 20 years of experience in automotive chip technology, which has been developed through long-term continuous innovation," added the official.

An additional 5 billion yuan investment into a smart vehicle components plant, now in trial operation, underscores BYD’s commitment to innovation.

Supporting over 400 local suppliers and creating tens of thousands of jobs, the facility is set to further strengthen its leadership in the industry.
