Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC held a views-exchange meeting with prominent Islamic scholars (Alems) aimed at increasing the use of 'Bangla QR' in religious institutions to build a ‘Cashless Bangladesh’.
The meeting took place at a hotel in the capital on Saturday (August 8). Director General of the Islamic Foundation, Mufti Muhammad Muhibbullahil Baqi, attended the event as chief guest.

Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank, Mohammad Zahir Hossain, who is currently serving as the Chairman of the bank's Board of Directors, was present as the special guest.
Presided over by the bank's Acting Managing Director Md. Altaf Hossain, the event was also addressed by Chairman of the bank's Shari'ah Supervisory Committee Mufti Shamsuddin Zia, Member of the Shari'ah Supervisory Board of Bangladesh Bank Shah Mohammad Waliullah, and Additional Director of the Islamic Banking Regulations and Policy Department of Bangladesh Bank Mohammad Zakir Hossain.
The keynote presentation on Bangla QR was presented by the bank's Additional Managing Director Engineer Mohammad Jamal Uddin Mazumder, while Additional Managing Director Dr. M Kamal Uddin Jasim delivered the welcome speech. Members of the bank's supervisory committee and senior executives were also present.
In his speech as chief guest, Mufti Muhammad Muhibbullahil Baqi said that financial transactions have transformed alongside technological advancements, making it a need of the time to involve religious institutions in this change.
By adopting simple and modern digital payment systems like Bangla QR, religious institutions can conduct financial transactions in a more transparent, safe, and disciplined manner, he said.
Mufti Baqi called upon Islamic scholars and religious leaders to come forward to help build a Cashless Bangladesh and expand modern, secure, and easy digital payment systems across religious institutions.
Special guest Mohammad Zahir Hossain noted that Bangladesh is consistently moving toward digital transformation.
He emphasized that expanding digital transactions is crucial for making the country's financial system more modern, convenient, and inclusive. Bringing religious institutions under Bangla QR will create an opportunity to connect a vast population with digital payments.
Acting Managing Director Md. Altaf Hossain stated that despite numerous challenges, Islami Bank continues to move forward backed by customer trust and support.
He reaffirmed that the bank is actively working to ensure simple, secure, and modern banking services for its customers, according to a press release.
