Faraaz, his brother Fahmaan said, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Bengaluru's Vikram Hospital on October 8, following a chest infection. Subsequently, Faraaz in his 60s was diagnosed with a brain infection, he told the media.
Fahmaan, also an actor, has appealed for financial help, saying the family needs Rs 25 lakh (USD 35,000) for his treatment. "Bhai (brother) has been on ventilator for the past five days and as per doctors, there are 50% chances of his survival."
"The doctors are trying their best to get him out of danger but that will require another 7-10 days of critical care. This will cost us around Rs 25 lakh. It is a huge amount to be arranged," said Fahmaan.
Faraaz and Fahmaan are sons of late actor Yusuf Khan, who's best remembered as Zebisko from the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer action-musical thriller Amar Akbar Anthony.
Bollywood actress-turned-filmmaker Pooja Bhatt was the first to respond. In a tweet, she said that she was donating money for the actor's treatment and urged others to come forward. "Please share and contribute if possible. I am. Would be grateful if any of you can as well," tweeted Pooja.
Faraaz has played key roles in many Bollywood films, including blockbusters like Fareb and Prithvi, and also featured in TV shows such as Raat Hone Ko Hai and Sinndoor Tere Naam Ka.
