Guitarists in Dhaka are not just individual artists; many of them see themselves as part of a close-knit musical family.

An iftar gathering recently brought them together under a platform called ‘Guitarist’s Community of Dhaka’, planting the seed of a stronger sense of brotherhood that participants hope will lead to larger musical events, collaborations and workshops in the future.

The event was organised by young guitarists Emil, Shawon, Prince and Debashish, while it was conducted by Rashed Shibli.

The gathering was particularly meaningful for young guitarists, as it offered them a rare opportunity to interact directly with experienced musicians associated with popular bands such as Dalchhut and Prometheus, allowing them to exchange experiences and receive feedback.

For many young musicians, such interactions can be a source of great inspiration. When experienced artists share stories and lessons from their long musical careers, it becomes easier for the younger generation to understand and navigate the challenges of the music industry.

Organisers mentioned that sharing the musical heritage of Bangladesh helps build a bridge between the current generation and the pioneers of the country’s golden era of band music, strengthening the future of the music community.

One of the organisers, Debashis Ghosh Shuva, said the aim of the initiative is to unite guitar players.

“Music is like an ocean. By sharing our music and experiences with each other, we can all learn something new,” he said.

Debashis added that the community is planning to organise guitar workshops in the future under the banner of Guitarist’s Community of Dhaka.

He said the workshops may be conducted by senior and experienced guitarists such as Labu Rahman, Partha Majumdar and Masum Wahidur Rahman.

He also expressed gratitude to all members of the Guitarist’s Community of Dhaka and guests for making the iftar gathering a success.

Another organiser, Emil, also thanked the members of the community for their love, participation and cooperation, which he said made the event memorable.

He expressed special thanks to respected guests including Labu Rahman, Monowar Hossain Tutul, Partha Majumdar and Masum Wahidur Rahman for attending the event.

“Their presence made the event more honourable and enriching,” he said.

Around 60 guitarists attended the gathering, marking a proud and memorable moment for the online-based Guitarist’s Community of Dhaka.

Participants said the event reflected the collective passion, unity and dedication of guitarists and could inspire more such initiatives in Bangladesh’s music scene.
