In an interview, Gauri Khan has shared insights into her family's approach to religion and how their bond has remained unwavering despite the hurdles posed by their different faiths.
Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri, Bollywood's power couple, have always maintained a deep respect for each other's religious beliefs, never feeling the need to convert for the sake of their relationship.
Gauri explained that their marriage has always been rooted in equality and mutual respect for their diverse religions. "We maintain balance in our household," she said.
"I respect Shah Rukh's faith, but that doesn't mean I will change my religion. I don't believe in that. Everyone has their own identity, and they should follow their religion naturally, with respect for others’ beliefs. Shah Rukh respects my religion too."
Despite their different backgrounds, the couple’s love story has been one of enduring strength, with both partners choosing to remain true to their respective religions. Shah Rukh and Gauri's relationship, which began in college, faced many challenges, but they overcame them to create a lasting union.
Their children, however, have followed Shah Rukh’s faith. Gauri revealed that Aryan, their eldest son, identifies with his father's religion.
"Aryan actually follows Shah Rukh. That's why he follows his father's faith," she said. "I think he would identify as Muslim. When he first said, 'I am Muslim,' my mother was surprised, but she didn’t mind. She adjusted to it."
Aryan, who has been frequently in the limelight, has shown little interest in following his father into acting. Instead, he has expressed a strong desire to direct films.
Gauri also shared that Aryan’s nightly routine involves prayers, first following his mother’s rituals and then his father’s, a reflection of the balanced approach his parents have instilled in him.
The Khan family’s story serves as a powerful example of how love and respect can transcend religious boundaries, creating a home where individual beliefs are celebrated without conflict.
