BNP on Wednesday warned that any attempt to obstruct Thursday’s elections or create any disorder would face mass resistance from people, stressing that a firm stance by the Election Commission (EC) is crucial to ensure a peaceful polling environment.
“Whoever tries to resist the election or create chaos, we will not need to do anything—the people themselves will resist them. Even if we attempt to do such things, the people will resist us as well,” said BNP electoral steering committee chairman Nazrul Islam Khan.
He was briefing reporters after a meeting between a BNP delegation and Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin in the city’s Nirbachan Bhaban on Wednesday evening.
The BNP leader said the Election Commission should take strict measures to prevent any attempt to thwart the elections.
“Those who do not want change may attempt to thwart the elections. Again, some ones who are participating in the election but foresee certain defeat may also try to foil the election. That is why the Election Commission must take firm measures,” he said replying to a question.
During the meeting, BNP complained to the EC about violation of the electoral code in several places in the country.

Nazrul Islam Khan, also a BNP standing committee member, alleged that a video showing the distribution of money in Feni-1 constituency has already surfaced, but no visible action has been taken.
He also referred to incidents in Mymensingh, Ramu in Cox’s Bazar, Kahalu in Bogura, Lakshmipur and Saidpur, where leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami were reportedly detained over various illegal activities, with related videos circulating on social media.
