Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Monday said the BNP, which did not take part in the last national election, would be able to join the next polls after completion of parliament’s current five-year tenure.
“There was wider participation of the people in the last national election. There was no participation from the BNP. This parliament is elected for five years. The next national election will be held after the completion of the current parliament’s five-year tenure,” he said, referring to an opportunity for the BNP to participate.
The Awami League joint general secretary made the remarks while responding to a question at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus on Sunday claimed that it was the government, not the workers of his company, who filed the labour law violation case against him.
When his attention was drawn, the foreign minister said, “What he is saying is not correct. With due respect to him, I would like to say that what he said is not correct.”
The foreign minister said that the aggrieved workers of Yunus’ company filed the case as they were deprived of what they deserve.
