A Dhaka court on Sunday placed former state minister Shahjahan Omar, a vice chairman of BNP, on remand for four days in a case filed over the burning of a bus in the capital's New Market area.
The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Rashidul Alam passed the order after a hearing.
Earlier, the investigation officer of the case, Police Inspector Sairul Islam of DB's Illegal Arms Recovery and Prevention Team, produced the accused before the court and sought a seven-day remand in the Special Powers Act case.

On behalf of the accused, Masud Ahmed Talukder, Iqbal Hossain and some others filed a bail application seeking cancellation of the remand.
After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail application of the accused and ordered a 4-day remand for interrogation.
Sub-Inspector Safayet Hossain of the General Registration Unit of New Market Police Station confirmed the information.

On November 4, a bus of Mirpur Super Link Limited was set on fire at Gauchiya Market area under New Market police station around 7:15pm. The bus suffered a loss of around Tk 5 lakh. The bus driver filed the case.
Later, detective police picked up Barrister Shahjahan Omar from a house in the capital in the early hours of Sunday (November 5) as a suspect in the case.
