Leaders of Sylhet Metropolitan Jamaat-e-Islami failed to hold a protest march due to the strict stance of law enforcement agencies.
Md Shajahan Ali, secretary of Sylhet Metropolitan Jamaat, said they were supposed to hold a protest march to press their 10-point demand. But the stance of the law enforcement agencies looked like they had declared war. "So we did not take out the procession," he added.
Earlier, Jamaat was denied twice from holding rallies in Sylhet on July 15 and 21.

He said that a written application was made to the police commissioner of the city last Monday regarding the procession.

After such an announcement by Jamaat, a large number of members of various units of the police stationed themselves at Courtpoint, Chowhatta and other intersections of the city from Friday noon.

At the same time, Several thousand leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami gathered in Bandar, Zindabazar, Chowhatta, Rikabi Bazar and Darga Gate areas. However, they did not take out the procession due to the strict stance of law and order forces.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Metropolitan Police Md Shahriar Al-Mamun said "We are responsible for maintaining the peace of the city." "If Jamaat takes part in any anti-state activities, we will take action," added the ADC.
