A case was filed on Wednesday against eight police officials over the death of a Jatiyatabadi Chattra Dal leader in a clash between police and activists of BNP and its associate bodies in Bancharampur upazila of Brahmanbaria.
Md Rahmat Ullah, father of deceased Nayan Miah, filed the case with the court of District Senior Magistrate (Bancharampur) naming eight police officials and eight to ten unnamed ones.
The accused are- Brahmanbaria Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Anisur Rahman, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mozammel Hossain Reza, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bancharampur Police Station Noore Alam, Police Inspector (Investigation) Tarun Kanti Dey, Police Inspector Afzal Hossain Khan, Sub-Inspector (SI) Bikiran Chakma, constables Bishwajit Chandra Das and Shafikul Islam.

According to the case, the prime accused in the case constables Bishwajit Chandra Das and Shafiqul Islam opened fire on the leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies during the clash over distributing leaflets for the rally in Cumilla at Molla Bari area of the upazila on November 19.
Nayan, vice president of Sonarampur union parishad unit JCD, fell down after being hit by a bullet and several others also sustained injuries in the attack.
He was first rushed to Bancharampur Upazila Health Complex. Later he was shifted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where physicians pronounced him dead around 7:30pm.
The court will pass an order examining the case, said plaintiff’s counsel MA Mannan.
