BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Friday said the hope for implementation of a fabricated notion of minus-two or depoliticisation will not be fulfilled as BNP is now the most popular political party in the country.

“Those who talk about minus-two (depoliticisation) here is just a false thinking… That expectation will not be fulfilled in life,” he said, replying to a question from reporters after paying tribute at the grave of late President Ziaur Rahman in the capital.

Khasru, along with several leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated bodies who could not return home from abroad during the 16-year regime of Awami League, placed wreaths at the grave of Ziaur Rahman.

The BNP standing committee members said his party cannot be annihilated with the fabricated notion of depoliticisation. "If someone utters such fabricated words about depoliticisation or minus two... that is their problem," he said.

Khasru said now BNP stands as the most popular party in Bangladesh and Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman are two most popular leaders.

Noting that neither HM Ershad nor the one-eleven government could destroy BNP, he said, “Now, BNP is a much stronger party than ever before... It cannot be wiped out.”

Khasru stressed the need for restoration of democracy in the country. "Democracy must be established in Bangladesh. The first task for that (to restore democracy) is (to arrange) election... election is the first reform (initiative). The movement for reforms and the restoration of democracy must begin with this (election)," he said.

BNP Chairperson's advisory council member Abdus Salam, among other party’s central leaders, was present.
