Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque on Friday said that BNP leaders are afraid to join the elections because many of them will lose their security money if they come to the elections.
The minister was speaking at a views-exchange meeting held at District Jagir High School ground on Manikganj Sadar on Friday evening as the chief guest.
"The people of the country are in favor of Sheikh Hasina. No matter how much agitation they do, BNP-Jamaat men don't have enough power to foil the election. Free, fair and impartial elections will be held in the country on January 7," he added.

The meeting was chaired by Municipal Awami League President Arshed Ali Biswas where District Awami League President Advocate Golam Mohiuddin, District Volunteer Sevak League President Abu Bakar Siddique Tushar, among others, spoke.
The health minister said that during the BNP -Jamaat regime it was said that girls do not need education. They will stay at home. They do not need to go out. But women are moving forward in all fields after Sheikh Hasina came to power. Now, women are representing the country at home and abroad.
Urging BNP to join the polls, Maleque said, "You do not have the courage to come to the elections, because you cannot get votes by burning and killing people.”
