BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Sunday said an Islamist party has “lost balance” in its bid to go to state power.
“An Islamist party has lost balance in its efforts to come to power. Jamaat-e-Islami is not an independent political party. They work as a branch of a party from another country,” he said.
The BNP leader made the remarks while talking to reporters after visiting the Durga Puja celebration at Ramna Kali Mandir in the capital.
He said BNP does not need to change its identity, as it does politics for the people of Bangladesh and is deeply rooted among them.

Extending greetings to members of the Hindu community on behalf of BNP, Rizvi said festivals bring people closer. “When one community celebrates a big festival, it becomes a festival for everyone. Festivals never divide; they spread messages of friendship and harmony.”
The BNP leader said on such festive occasions, people greet one another, and although religions are different, the national identity is one.
He said Rabindranath Tagore, Nazrul Islam and Lalon belong to everyone, and there are no religious barriers in their legacy.
Rizvi alleged that Sheikh Hasina created divisions for the sake of power, but he insisted that there are no divisions among the people of the country.
“This is the beauty of Bangladesh. Since people of all religions are working together, all conspiracies are being foiled,” the BNP leader observed.
He warned that conspiracies are still ongoing to create unrest, especially in remote areas during the Puja period.

The BNP leader said the conspirators are trying to take advantage of this time of Durga Puja to make political gains by creating chaos and playing the religion card.
He said Hindus and Muslims in Bangladesh share the same food, dress and culture. “There is no division here. People of all faiths are working together. If anyone casts an evil eye on even an inch of the country’s land, their eyes will be destroyed.”
