A councillor candidate, who won the election in the Sirajganj municipality, was stabbed to death by miscreants while celebrating victory on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Tariqul Islam, 35, a councillor candidate of ward 6 and son of Abdul Kuddus of Bhangabari area of Sadar upazila.
Bahauddin Faruki, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said, Tariqul was elected unofficially in the municipality polls held Saturday.

Later, his supporters brought out a procession to celebrate his victory.
At one stage, the supporters of rival party swooped attacked the procession and stabbed Tariqul, leaving him critically injured.
Later, he was taken to a local hospital where the doctor declared him dead.
Additional police have been deployed in the area to avert further trouble.
The second phase election to 60 municipalities was held on Saturday with participation of two major political parties – Awami League and BNP – in the most of the election areas.
