Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon has resigned from the cabinet and been appointed Political Adviser to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman with ministerial status.
The Cabinet Division issued two separate notifications in this regard on Saturday.
The first notification, signed by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, said the President accepted the resignation of Swapon as Information and Broadcasting Minister.
The other notification, also signed by the cabinet secretary, said Swapon was appointed as the Prime Minister’s Political Adviser under Rules 3B(1) and 3B(2) of the Rules of Business, 1996.
During his tenure as the PM’s Political Adviser, he will enjoy the status, salary, allowances and other benefits and facilities of a minister, it said.
Earlier, as part of the first reshuffle of the cabinet, Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) Chairman Barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho has been given the charge of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, replacing Swapon.
Partho, along with three others, took oath as full ministers at Bangabhaban on Friday evening.
