Besides, the first death anniversary of former mayor of undivided Dhaka City Corporation and BNP vice-chairman Sadeque Hossain Khoka will also be observed the same day.
Jashore BNP and Tariqul Islam Smriti Sangsad have worked out various programmes, including discussion, doa mahfil, Qurankhwani and food distribution, to mark the death anniversary of Tariqul.
Local BNP leaders and people of all walks of life will place wreaths at Tariqul’s grave in Jashore and offer fateha there in the morning.
A doa mahfil-cum- discussion programme will be arranged on the grave premises in the afternoon, said BNP assistant office secretary Taiful Islam Tipu.
Besides, he said, Tariqul Islam Smriti Sangsad will arrange a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club on Thursday on the occasion.
Tipu said BNP will arrange a virtual discussion on Friday in memory of Tariqul.
On November 4, 2018, Tariqul died at Apollo Hospital in the capital at the age of 73. He was buried at Karbala graveyard in Jashore district town the following day.
Tariqul was elected MP for four times from Jashore and discharged as information and environment and forest ministers during the BNP-led four-party government.
When BNP formed the government in 1991, Tariqul was first made social welfare minister and then posts and telecommunications minister.
BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir issued separate messages recalling the contributions of Tariqul and Khoka to the country and the party.
Meanwhile, Sadeque Hossain Khoka Parishad and BNP have taken various programmes, including placing wreaths, discussion, doa mahfil and Qurankhwani and food attribution, to observe the 1st death anniversary of late Dhaka city mayor and former minister.
BNP leaders and activists and followers of Khoka will place wreaths at his Jurain graveyard in the city and offer fateha there at 11am on Wednesday.
Special doa mahfil will be arranged at different mosques in the capital on the occasion.
Khoka’s family members will arrange a doa and milad mahfil in the field of football club Brothers Union after Asr prayers.
Besides, Sadeque Hossain Khoka Parishad worked out an eight-day programme, including photo exhibition, documentary screening, discussion, doa mahfil and food distribution, to mark the death anniversary.
On November 4, 2019, valiant freedom fighter Sadeque Hossain Khoka died in the USA at the age of 67.
Born in May 12, 1952 in Munshiganj, Khoka was a guerilla freedom fighter during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.
Khoka was first elected MP in 1991 from Sutrapur-Kotwali seat and subsequently made State Minister for Youth and Sports. He was also elected MP in 1996.
In 2001 national election, Khoka was also elected MP from the same seat and given the charge of the Minister of Fisheries and Livestock.
Later, he contested Dhaka City Corporation election in 2002 and was elected mayor. He held the post for nearly nine years.
