Workers’ welfare key to national progress: Jamaat leader

Addressing a May Day rally, Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair, Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, on Friday said improving the lives and livelihoods of workers is essential for national progress.

“Working class do perform the duty risking their lives. We want to build a just society for them,” he said while addressing a rally at Bhogra Bypass in Gazipur, marking the historic International Workers' Day.

The programme was organised by the Bangladesh Workers’ Welfare Federation Gazipur Metropolitan unit.

He said Gazipur is home to a large number of workers and stressed that more initiatives should be taken to improve their quality of life.

Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair reiterated that workers’ welfare must be ensured for the country’s overall development and called on both workers and employers to work together for national progress.

“Although there are reserved seats for women in parliament, there are no seats for workers,” he added.

The event was moderated by city unit General Secretary Hasibul Hasan.

Gazipur-4 constituency lawmaker Salahuddin Ayubi, Metropolitan Jamaat Nayeb Ameer Khairul Hasan, Assistant Secretary Afzal Hossain and Azharul Islam Molla also spoke at the event.

The rally was presided over by city unit President Muhammad Hossain Ali, while Metropolitan Jamaat Ameer Professor Muhammad Jamal Uddin and Workers’ Welfare Federation Central Vice President Kabir Ahmed attended as special guests.
