“We’re planning to arrange national and international meets in 2020 marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and allocated a budget of Tk 20 crore for this purpose,” said newly elected BAF general secretary Advocate Abdur Rakib Montu on Sunday.
About his next plan as the new GS, Montu said, “My first target is to fulfill all the commitments that I made before the election. As a former GS of the ad-hoc committee, I made several plans and now we’ll try to execute those.”
The government has announced 2020 as the ‘Mujib Year’ and formed two committees to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu.
Ten subcommittees have also been constituted to arrange various events, including international sports, cultural programmes, films and documentaries, seminars, workshops, international workshops, media and promotion, and publication and literature.
On Saturday, the Montu-led panel swept the Athletics Federation election bagging all the 28 posts.
Montu was elected general secretary beating former general secretary Mohammad Shah Alam by 96-19 votes in the election.
Five elected vice-presidents are Advocate Nuruddin Chowdhury Nayon (111), Md Furukul Islam (96), Md Jayedul Alam, (93), SM Murtoza Rashidi Dara (93) and Md Tofazzal Hossain (80).
Two joint secretaries are Farid Khan Chowdhury (95) and Md Mizanur Rahman (80), Treasurer Md Jamal Hossan (88).
Nineteen EC members are Md Najir Ahmed Mallick (110), Md Saeed Hasan Loban (109), Md Aminul Islam (109), Nazimul Haque Nazim (107), Md Rafiqullah Aktar Milon (107), Md Shamsuddoha Mamun (107), Abdul Mannan Mani (107), Aktaruzzaman Mridha Polash (106), Yousuf Khan Pathan (105), Lutfur Rahmna Babu (105), Md Mojibur Rahman (105), Md Kamal Uddin (104), Habibur Rahman Bhuiyan (104), Farhad Jesmin Liti (103), Saifur Rahman Razzak (102), Shamima Sattar Mimu (101), Mahbuba Hossain Belli (93), Jatin Kumar Das (90) and Shrinibas Haldar (90).
The National Sports Council published the final list of the 28-member executive committee with portfolio on Sunday while they will hand over the charges to the newly elected committee on August 7.
The election to Bangladesh Athletic Federation was earlier postponed in the dying moment in 2017.
In the meantime, the federation was run by the ad-hoc committee, which was formed by the NSC on March 15 in 2017.
