“We wanted to appoint coaches who have the ability to coach a higher standard team. We found Langeveldt and Vettori to take charge of bowling coaches,” Nazmul told the media at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium after a board meeting of BCB.
Before joining Bangladesh, 44-year-old Langeveldt worked on the same role for the South Africa national team for a while before Otis Gibson’s appointment as coach of the Proteas. He has the experiences of working with the Afghanistan national team as well. He replaced Courtney Walsh as the pace bowling coach of Bangladesh.
In his playing career, Langeveldt represented South Africa in six Tests, 72 ODIs and nine T20Is and grabbed 16, 100 and 17 wickets respectively.
Vettori, on the other hand, played 113 Tests, 295 ODIs and 34 T20Is for New Zealand and bagged 362, 305 and 38 wickets respectively. The 40-year-old coach previously coached several teams of Indian Premier League as well. To appoint Vettori, BCB parted ways with Indian coach Sunil Joshi.
As per the initial contract, both of Langeveldt and Vettori will play their role till T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia.
Langeveldt will work on a full-time basis while Vettori will give his service for 100 days starting from India series of Bangladesh during coming November.
Along with appointing Langeveldt and Vettori, BCB extended the contract with Neil McKenzie, who has been working as Bangladesh’s batting coach for a while now.
Meanwhile, BCB president said they are searching for a head coach. He said: “We are searching for a head coach as well. We have talked with some renowned coaches. But it will take some more times to finalize who will be next head coach of Bangladesh national team.”
Besides, the BCB also renewed contracts of national chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu and selector Habibul Bashar Sumon till the next year T20 World Cup in Australia.
