England defender John Stones has been ruled out of the World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia due to a muscle injury.
The Manchester City player left the national team camp on Friday. Head coach Thomas Tuchel said Stones arrived with minor muscle problems and did not improve as expected.
“He came with muscular issues and didn’t progress as we hoped, so he left camp this morning. We will not take the risk, not against Andorra and also not against Serbia,” Tuchel told reporters.
England face Andorra at Villa Park on Saturday before traveling to Belgrade to play Serbia on Tuesday. Tuchel confirmed captain Harry Kane will feature against Andorra, stressing he will field his strongest side as qualification remains the top priority.
