The right-handed batsman usually plays as an opener. With the appearance of Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar in the opening slots, Liton might need to bat at lower order.
“All 15 members of the squad are trying to get in the playing XI. So am I. But only 11 will get the final call. All I can say is that I need to wait for my opportunity. At the same time, I’m ready to bat anywhere in the batting line,” Liton told the media.
In the tri-nation series in Ireland, Soumya hit three fifties in three matches. On the other hand, Liton played a match and hit a fifty. After that, in the practice game against India, Liton hit another fifty. But due to the combination, he might not be selected to open the innings.
In that case, Liton might be considered for batting at number five or seven replacing Mohammad Mithun or Sabbir Rahman. As per the current form, Liton is far better than both of Mithun and Sabbir.
At the same time, Liton has the ability to show the explosive batting if it is required while chasing a big total or put up a challenging total while batting first.
“In the last couple of matches, we’ve scored nearly 300 runs. I don’t think it matters (scoring 300) too much now. If we’re chasing more than 300, we’ll go into batting with the mentality to chase it down and if we’re setting the target, then we’ll try to set a sizeable total,” Liton added.
