London, Jul 1 (AP/UNB) — India allrounder Vijay Shankar is out of the Cricket World Cup after fracturing the big toe on his left foot while facing teammate Jasprit Bumrah in a practice session on June 19. Shankar played two subsequent games but missed the 31-run defeat to England on Sunday, when he was replaced by batsman Rishabh Pant.
The 28-year-old Shankar has a useful 31.85 ODI average from eight innings. He made three appearances at this World Cup, scoring 58 runs and taking two wickets with medium pace.
India, which earlier in the tournament lost opener Shikhar Dhawan to injury, has called up 28-year-old Mayank Agarwal as Shankar's replacement.
Agarwal, a top-order batsman, has played two tests for India but no ODIs.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India says Shankar's injury will take three weeks to heal.
Bumrah is the top-ranked bowler in one-day international cricket and has one of the best yorkers in the game.
