Liverpool’s two high-profile summer signings, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, were named on the bench for Saturday’s Merseyside derby against Everton.
Isak, who made his debut in Wednesday’s 3-2 Champions League victory over Atlético Madrid, started that match and played until the 57th minute. Wirtz had featured in Liverpool’s first four Premier League games and the Champions League opener but did not start against Everton.
Hugo Ekitike replaced Isak in the starting lineup, while Alexis Mac Allister started in place of Wirtz, who is yet to score for Liverpool this season after joining from Bayer Leverkusen.
Liverpool also made changes in defence, with Milos Kerkez starting at left-back instead of Andy Robertson and Conor Bradley at right-back in place of Jeremie Frimpong.
