The 9th edition of the 10-nation Men’s Junior (U-21) Asia Cup Hockey begins on Tuesday (May 23) in the Omanese city of Salalah with Bangladesh taking on hosts Oman in one of the four opening day's matches.
The match will kicks-off at 10 pm Bangladesh time.
In their last meeting in Men’s Junior AHF Cup held in Muscat last January. Bangladesh beat Oman by 7-6 goals in penalty shootout as the keenly contested final match was locked in 1-1 goal in the scheduled time.
Earlier, Bangladesh have been placed in Group B with Malaysia, South Korea, hosts Oman and Uzbekistan while Group A team comprises India, Pakistan, Japan, Chinese Taipei and Thailand.
In the remainng group B matches, Bangladesh will play Malaysia on May 25, Uzbekistan on May 26 and Korea on May 28.
All the participating players have to born on or after January 1 2002, making them 21 years old or less.
The top five teams --India, Pakistan, Japan, Korea and Malaysia --got an automatic qualification based on their world rankings.
Five other countries --Bangladesh, Oman, Thailand, Uzbekistan and Chinese Taipei--earned the rights to play in the final round of the meet from qualifiying round of the Men’s Junior AHF Cup held in Muscat, Oman in last January.
Top three teams of the title tournament, apart from Malaysia which is already qualified as the host, will qualify for the FIH Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup 2023.
