Batsman Usman Khawaja knocked 88 off 129 while Wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey added 71 off 72 for Australia.

On the other hand, Trent Boult of New Zealand  made his hat-trick claiming 4 wickets for 51 while Lockie Ferguson and James Neesham picked up two wickets each.

After winning the toss, Australia opted to bat first on a used pitch and was in trouble at 92-5 after 21.3 overs against New Zealand in the day-night match.

Captain Aaron Finch was the first man to get dismissed by Trent Boult after adding only 8 runs in the opening stand with David Warner.

Warner, the leading scorer of the ongoing World Cup, was removed for 16 by Lockie Ferguson.

Australia got another blow when former captain Steven Smith was removed by Lockie Ferguson for 5.  

Allrounder Jimmy Neesham put pressure on Aussies removing Marcus Stoinis for 8 and Glenn Maxwell for a duck.

After losing the five crucial wickets for 92 runs, Aussies were truly poor in the middle.

But in the sixth wicket-stand, Usman Khawaja alongwith Alex Carey added 107 runs.

Alex Carey hit 11 fours to score 71 in his innings, before dismissed by Kiwis Captain Kane Williamson.

On the other hand, Khawaja continued his innings and tried hard to resist Kiwis seamers alongwith Pat Cummins in the eighth wicket-stand.

After adding 44 runs, Khawaja was out for 88 off 129 balls by veteran Kiwis bowler Trent Boult.

After removing Khawaja in his third ball of last over, Boult got his hat-trick dismissing Mitchell Starc and Jason Behrendorff for duck off the fourth and fifth deliveries.

Pat Cummins remained unbeaten at 23.
