While talking to reporters at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Saturday, he also said he has to work more to make the current pace bowling attack stronger.
“It was a pleasing aspect for me to see the pacers did well in the practice game. They were able to control the new ball. But still, we need to work harder,” the South African coach said.
In the inter-squad practice game at Sher-e-Bangla, Taskin Ahmed bagged four wickets while Ebadot Hossain and Abu Jayed Rahi took three wickets each.
Mahmudulla was the only spinner to do something notable in the practice game taking three wickets.
“The seamers bowled well. They got the ball in the right areas what we have been working for last week. So, the improvement is good,” Langeveldt added.
Bangladesh Cricket Board called three pacers -- Taskin Ahmed, Abu Jayed Rahi and Ebadot Hossain -- for the one-off Test against Afghanistan. Taskin and Rahi played five Tests each, while Ebadot appeared in two.
It means Bangladesh are going to play their first Test against Afghanistan with a fledgling pace-attack. However, Langeveldt believes if they can control their pace, they can be stronger in the coming days.
“Still there’re many works to be done. Some bowlers need to get their wrist position right, some need to make their seam position perfect. There’re many things which might be right in future,” the coach further said.
The Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh team are set to fly for Chattogram on Sunday. The one-off Test will be held at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in the port city.
After the Test, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Zimbabwe will take on each other in a tri-series T20 which will be played in Chattogram and Dhaka.
