Dhaka, Aug 25 (UNB) - Bangladeshi swimmers Romana Aktar and Faisal Ahmed of the Army, finished as runners-up in their respective events of the 76th World Long Distance Swimming Competition at the River Bhagirathi in Murshidabad District of West Bengal, India on Sunday.
Romana and Faisal were competing in the 19-kilometer distance swimming event for women and men respectively. In the women’s event, another Bangladeshi Sonia Akhter Tumpa of Bangladesh Navy finished third.
Earlier, a 12-member Bangladesh swimming team reached India on Thursday (August 22) to participate in the traditional swimming competition.
Among the swimmers, Faisal Ahmed and Jewel Ahmed of Bangladesh Army, Palash Chowdhury of Bangladesh Navy took part in the men’s 19 kilometers swimming while Sonia Aktar Tumpa of Bangladesh Navy and Romana Aktar of Bangladesh Army took part in the women’s 19 kilometers swimming.
The team is expected to return home on August 27.
