Lyon climbed to the top of Ligue 1 with a 1-0 win over Angers on Friday, thanks to a second-half goal from American midfielder Tanner Tessmann.
Tessmann scored from close range in the 65th minute after Angers goalkeeper Hervé Koffi parried Martin Satriano’s header. It was his second goal for Lyon since joining from Venezia last year, strengthening his case for a U.S. national team recall under coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Angers nearly equalized late in the game, but Lanroy Machine’s attempt struck the post.
Lyon now sits level with defending champion Paris Saint-Germain on 12 points, while Angers is 12th. PSG faces Marseille on Sunday.
