After enduring a difficult 2017, Mominul has recovered his touch to go with his temperament in 2018, and is now tied with India’s Virat Kohli for the most hundreds this calendar year – 4. No other batsman has hit more than two centuries this year in the Test cricket.
Mominul certainly enjoys playing at the Zacs, completing his third consecutive Test hundred at the ground. He also pulled level alongside Tamim as the country’s leading century-maker. Mushfiqur Rahim trails behind them with 6.
But the smiling assassin in Momimul does not want to compare himself with Tamim or Virat as said, “There is no question to compare me with Tamim bhai, he has a different level in world cricket, It will not wise to compare me with him. And, Virat Kohli is more above of it. I don’t even think about it.” along with Indian Test side captain Virat Kohli
Momimul came up with the remark when talking at the press conference at ZACS after the first day’s play.
“I don’t think as you guys asked, I always try to improve myself and do something good for the team as much as I can. Still, I have second innings of the match to play and the second Test [against Windies] before the end of the year,” he added.
However, in the last four years, during former head coach Chandika Hathurusingha’s era, Mominul was hundred-less, but four in a year after the Lankan left in November 2017.
When Mominul was asked about it, he said, “Little, little struggle comes in human life.
Ultimately I have to play at the ground to prove for the team. It’s good for me. I don’t want to show off anyone anything. I always try to play good cricket for the team, that’s all.”
“The appetite of scoring more runs remained, after each of the big scores. I will not improve, If I lost it,” he added.
He also gave credit to a 17-year-old debut spinner Nayeem Hasan[24*] and left-handed spinner Taijul Islam [32*] for their unbeaten partnership of 56* off 95 balls in the ninth stand for Bangladesh’s 315/8* in 88 overs at stumps in the on day one against the Windies.
The 27-year loving youth from Cox’s Bazar, crossed the 100-run mark with a boundary off Roston Chase to reach 102 form 98 runs in the innings 49.3 overs with Bangladesh’s collection at 183/3 in the first innings during the first day’s second session.
Mominul faced 167-ball to fire 10 boundaries and one six, and was caught behind by Shane Dowrich off Shannon Gabriel in the day’s third session at 222/4 in 59.3 overs.
He hit back to back century for Bangladesh as the left-handed batsman hammering a 161-run in the first innings of the second Test for a 1-1 draw series against Zimbabwe in the last week in Dhaka.
The diminutive Mominul hammered six out of his eight hundreds at Chattogram venue, including the last two against Sri Lanka in February to be first Bangladesh’s cricketer to score century in both the innings of a Test match.
Mominul, who is still considered the genuine Test batsman of Bangladesh, made his debut in the longest format against Sri Lanka at Galle in March in 2013.
He played so far 32 Tests to aggregate 2472 at average 44.94 runs, including his best 181 runs against New Zealand in October 2013 also in Chattogram.
