Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan, chairman of BCB facilities management committee, is accused of having ties to a casino and possessing alcohol. Mahbub Anam, chairman of BCB ground committee, was served a notice by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for allegedly amassing illegal wealth.
BCB President Papon told the media that they are waiting for findings of the investigations.
“The law enforcement agencies are investigating the allegations. It’s too early to say whether BCB will take any action against them or not,” he said in Gulshan.
“They’ll be punished if they committed crimes. There’ll be no compromise,” he added.
On September 25, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) raided the Dhaka residence of Lokman and arrested him. He reportedly admitted to earning Tk 41 crores by renting a casino in Mohammedan Sporting Club at Motijheel. Lokman is the director in-charge of this club.
On Friday, a Dhaka court sent him on a two-day remand in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act at Tejgaon Police Station on Thursday.
The BCB President said he was unaware of Lokman’s involvement in any illegal activity.
“He should be punished if he’s committed any crime. But I can say that I know Lokman as a good man who didn’t drink alcohol in his life, and who didn’t take part in gambling. If he did any wrong, he should be punished,” Papon told the media.
On the other hand, the ACC asked Mahbub to submit his wealth statement. He has been accused of illegally amassing wealth worth over Tk 620 million.
“Mahbub’s case is being investigated. ACC can ask anyone to submit wealth statement. So it is too early to say that he did anything illegal,” Papon said.
